Note that I am not currently subscribed to this mailing list; if I need to do so, I'd be happy to. Dakim (www.dakim.com) is an OEM. We produce all-in-one touchscreen computers used to provide brain fitness exercises to seniors. (You can see a picture of our current "community" model on the top of this page: http://www.dakim.com/mpower_inst_easy_s.html ) The systems run on a stripped-down Ubuntu Dapper 6.06. The target market for our community model is assisted living communities, nursing homes, retirement homes, etc. We are currently working towards a 1.0 of a new product, designed for purchase by individuals; we call this the home model. Our contracted hardware manufacturer has produced a software-controlled headphone jack. (The community model has a standard connector, where insertion of the headphone jack physically disconnects the speakers.) On this software-controlled jack, insertion of the headphone causes a pin to go hot. We'd like to monitor that pin, and issue a BIOS call to shut off the speakers when the headphone is inserted. (That's how the Windows version of this driver works.) We're working with the manufacturer to get full specs of the part, but do not have them yet. The manufacturer *DOES* appear to be willing to work with us (or third parties) by providing specs and assistance. Note that this headphone assembly is NOT something custom-produced for Dakim. This is supposedly "standard" hardware that the manufacturer will be including in other models in the future. --Schof -------------------------------------------------- John Schofield Director, Information Technology Dakim, Inc. 2121 Cloverfield Blvd. Suite 205 Santa Monica, CA 90404 www.dakim.com schof at dakim.com (e-mail) dakimschof (AIM) (310) 566-1350 (Main) (310) 566-1355 (Direct) (310) 829-1865 (Fax) (800) 853-7289 (Tech. But making "BIOS calls" seems a bit strange for something like this, as Linux already has the capability to shut off speakers when headphones are plugged in, or at any other time if needed. Have you looked into the PulseAudio framework that everyone is starting to use for their audio solutions in distros? It handles policy decisions like this just fine, and might keep you from having to have any kind of kernel driver. thanks, greg k-h From tomasz89 at gmail.com Sat Feb 9 00:22:55 2008 From: tomasz89 at gmail.com (Tomasz Grzegurzko) Date: Sat, 9 Feb 2008 09:22:55 +0900 Subject: Mailing Lists In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi crew, After some upgrades to the server, the folks at Gentoo decided to fix up some initial mistakes they made with the mailman installation. I've shuffled things around now to the new, fixed, compliant format. All seems fine, but if anything does go wobbly over the next few days please let me know. (You may have noticed some oddities over the past few days, maybe a few bounced messages or something, I believe I've addressed those issues now). Since Robert also offered to help, maybe he can hold this, and I can give him some supported, when needed. Cheers, Mauro
