Yes, they should target the current mainline kernel, get the code into
the main kernel.org tree, and then, if the company still needs it, and
the work is very simple, do the backport to the old kernel version.
That ensures that the code is properly reviewed and accepted upstream
before the company takes the code and ships it.
Is that ok with everyone?
